Young Dolph Murder Trial: Judge Grants Defense’s Request To Pull Jury From Outside Memphis

Justin Johnson, the suspected killer of Young Dolph, was allowed to pool jurors from beyond Memphis. According to The Associated Press, Judge Jennifer J. Mitchell granted the motion due to the intense media coverage of the rapper’s hometown murder. A jury will be brought to the city from outside Shelby County for the June 3 trial. The defendant’s lawyer, Luke Evans, argued earlier this month that “the victim in the case is beloved here” and that Dolph’s fans have threatened Johnson and his co-defendant, Cornelius Smith, with “lynching” and prison death.  Evans believes these calls for violence are motivated by “seeking vengeance, not justice.”

Do you think the jury pool for Young Dolph’s murder case should be from outside Memphis?
