Randee St. Nicholas/RCA RecordsR. Kelly is allegedly pursuing legal action against Lifetime nearly hours before the network airs their six-part expose Surviving R. KellyTMZ reports

According to the outlet, the R&B crooner is threatening to file a federal lawsuit against the entertainment company if they don’t pull the plug on the docu-series. The three-night event aims to examine how Kelly’s star power allowed him to brainwash, manipulate and abuse numerous women.

In addition, the documentary will also feature accounts from people who were once affiliated with Kelly’s inner circle as well as women who were pulled into his alleged “sex cult.”

However, Kelly’s lawyer Brian Nix claims that the singer possesses recordings which prove that Lifetime knew “some of the girls are lying, but that the budget was too high to turn back now.”

In spite of this, Lifetime has reportedly informed TMZ that they will be moving forward with broadcast plans beginning tonight. In an issued statement, a rep for the network doubled down on their support of Kelly’s alleged victims saying Lifetime has “always championed women’s stories.”
