Melissa Bender Following protests outside the company’s offices in both New York City and Los Angeles, Sony Music has dropped R. KellyVariety says it has learned.

A source tells Variety that RCA, the Sony label to which Kelly is signed, doesn’t plan to publicly announce the news, but the artist no longer appears on the RCA Records website.

Kelly’s last album for the label was a 2016 Christmas release, but he’s since released some singles and has tweeted that he had a new album coming.

While calls for the label to #MuteRKelly have been going on for several years, pressure on Sony increased last week following the airing of the Lifetime docuseries Surviving R. Kelly.  The six-part series documented in detail the allegations of sexual abuse that have followed the singer for decades.  He has denied all the allegations.

Last week, a plane hired by the woman’s organization UltraViolet flew over Sony’s L.A. headquarters with a banner reading, “RCA/Sony: Drop Sexual Predator R. Kelly.”  This week, protestors gathered outside the company’s New York City offices, chanting “Drop R. Kelly” and “Mute R. Kelly.”
