For as long as Kanye has been posting his “Sunday services” online, I’ve been trying to find out how to be in the audience. At first these services began as an invite only type of situation in California. Then he started doing pop ups in other cities. Well, this weekend I was in Atlanta for the MBE Conference. I woke up Sunday morning in my Atlanta hotel room and was scrolling Instagram when I stumbled across a post that said Kanye was having a pop up service in Atlanta.

Ya’ll!!!!! I legit jumped up and began running around the room throwing my things in my bag! Service had started over an hour ago, so I just knew I was too late. I reached out to @emoya_ on Instagram (she was there) and asked if I was too late. She said Yeezy hadn’t even come out yet. At that point I did laps around that hotel room and got myself together!! According to my gps I was 30min from the church *insert anxiety*.

I pulled into the church parking lot and noticed people leaving. People were pulling out of the parking lot, and other people were still exiting the church. I just knew I had missed the service in the 30 min it took me to drive there. I walked inside the church anyway and the choir started singing, next thing you know here comes Kanye to the stage!!!

Kanye began by sharing how much better his life is since beginning a real relationship with Christ. He discussed how much better a father he is, and how his relationship with Christ has spilled over into all of his other relationships. He discussed how he was chasing the wrong things all of this time, and now he’s chasing Christ. He said “I’ve seen him work miracles in my life,”…….”You know the devil presents so many flashy, shiny objects. I’ve seen everything that the devil could’ve showed you via TV, videos, car dealerships, jewelry, houses, and I’ll tell you…” ………”Nothin’ beats God…and a sound mind.”

Kanye looked at PEACE, for the first time in a long time. Kanye praised God, hit his knees, and encouraged everyone listening to praise God and to hold others they encounter accountable. He shared about having a radical obedience to Jesus. Kanye went on to say “You sent your son to die for us and all you ask is for radical obedience to you,”…. “You’re not asking us to do the least. You know how people are like, ‘At least I…,’ how are we gonna do the least when he did the most?”.

It was an amazing experience. The choir sounded awesome. Kanye had a pure energy to him, I believe he is in a good place and I know first hand that God does that to people.

THE SERVICE WAS FREE, Kanye isn’t being paid to do these events. This is something he does because he wants to. I honestly think it’s therapeutic for him and it allows him to continue growing in Christ.

The music was Christ like lyrics with a hip hop or R&B beat and I think that’s ok! Maybe some of us know the song So Anxious because Ginuwine sung it first; does that now make it off limits for anyone else? NOPE. So if Kanye flips it and says my souls anchored, it’s wrong? NOPE

The saints will say it is, but I say let people praise God how they see fit. It’s not blasphemous. Kanye isn’t trying to get a cult going or to pretend he’s Jesus. He’s a man who’s been through some things, like most of us. The difference here is he’s gone through it in the public eye. He’s not perfect, but SAINT—neither are you! He’s a young man trying to get it together and God has provided him a sense of betterment and comfort; isn’t that what God does?  I have always loved Kanye as an artist, that doesn’t mean I’ve been a fan of all of his behaviors. However, this is great! What Kanye is doing with his platform is an awesome sight to see. He is spending his money, traveling all over the country, to praise GOD — with music.

Do I think an album is coming? Yep…..SEPTEMBER 27th “JESUS IS KING” and I can’t wait to support it.

Before you attempt to attack Kanye for how he is praising God, or judge him for his past discretions — think about yours. What if the world knew everything you said or did without thinking? What if your praises and relationship with Christ was ridiculed because of who you were or things you’d previously said or done.

Imagine if God did that. In fact God has been known to use those society would throw away, the tax collector, the prostitute, the drunk, adulterer…..the list goes on.

I’m here for this Kanye and pray God continues to use him. I saw people in that church Sunday that likely wouldn’t have made it to church or heard any type of WORD if it weren’t for Kanye being in that building. God does all things well.
